Killer Steps To Conquer Poetry

HOW TO TAKE DOWN POETRY?
Let me introduce this Blog Post as a tip for readers and especially students who are contributing their skills to stick on Poetry.
To be honest, this blog holds the procedure or steps to write up or TAKE DOWN a moderate casual poem.
May be…, Oh not may be! Truly here will be a contradiction or clash between my views to cook up a poem and the Professionals who read this Blog Post. To be frank, I’m not a professional. I’m just a student. My experiences with poetry writing culminated to post like this.
So, let’s begin…….
STEP.1: –Find Your Topic
Finding a topic for poem is not a big deal. But developing that specific subject till the end is a herculean task. Poetry holds a vast content as an Essay. But Poetry is too short when we compare it with an Essay. So we have to include all our ideas in that limited number of letters. In competitions, all the participants would get similar topics. But if you are unlucky, there exists several poetry writing competitions by electing loots. Poetry has no boundaries. It has its writer’s own freedom to convey message.
So whatever may be the topic of the Poem, we can definitely connect it with anything in this Universe or Beyond.
For example, we can see nowadays musical fusions with classical and traditional instruments. Like that, Modern gadgets with Nature. ‘Our life is as long as The Nile River. Here, Nile is an inanimate object and life is something different from that. Like that our mind should be set like that in order to deviate our route in any circumstances as we maintain the rhyme.
That is, our mind must be flexible and free to do so.
So, any Topic can be Explained, Deviated, and Modified in our own way and style
So, the deal with TOPIC ends here.
STEP.2: -The Beginning
Here hides a big task for a writer. And it has two variations.
The first one is that, you won’t get a trigger to start.
The second one is that, once you have started, you could not end up your writing.
Let’s start with the first variation…
If you got your subject or topic, then you have to fix that topic in your mind. Then look around. Whatever may the objects you see around you, pick out the apt one and connect that stuff with your topic as I told before. Describe that with your own way. Do not bother about the maturity and realistic essence of your writing. Practice will make you to reach there. Then, you can easily proceed with your thoughts to write down the next.
This is how we can deal with the starting trouble in our Poetry.
The next variation is something complex. I will explain it in the end.
STEP.3: -Using Suitable Words
Words are the one and only factor which sets the effectiveness and beauty of your Poem.
Your thinking skills and your observation can help you here. Using normal words in a Poem reduces its beauty. But you can develop it by practice. I’m sure it’s a big deal for a beginner. But you can definitely achieve your poetic beauty by adding complex words in your Poem.
For example, here is a word combination with the letter ‘S’.
“Sixth Sick Sheik’s Sixth Sheep’s Sick.”
‘Alliteration’ is the poetic device used here. [I will post a separate blog post on poetic devices.]
BUT EACH LINE OF YOUR POEM MUST START WITH ‘CAPS’ (Capital Letter).
Now we can move on to the next section.
STEP.4: -Maintaining the Rhyme
From the earlier periods itself, rhyming words and rhyming scheme maintains the visual and auditory beauty of Poems.
At the ends of adjacent lines, we must include rhyming words. Which means, the words which sounds similar with different meanings. For example,
Read – Weed
Age – Rage
Nut – Cut, and so on.
People may say, rhyme and rhyming scheme are not necessary for modern poetry. But in competitive side, including rhyme can increase the quality of your poem.
But you must use your sense to connect those words in a sequential meaning. But if that pair of words won’t match each other in any way. Then you must have to deviate your 1st description in order to connect with the 2ndword.
You can also use your own rhyming schemes or word sequence at the end of a line to make your poem more attractive.
This is how we can deal with rhyme in a poem.
STEP.5: – Stanza Division
As we explain our content in the Poem, it is essential to move from context to context. For that, we have to divide our content into Stanzas (paragraphs in poems and songs). Stanzas also provide a continuity, break, and also deviation to our subject.
We can follow a definite number of lines in a poem. Four line stanzas are most common. But we have our own freedom to set the number of lines in a stanza. Stanza is also an easier way to deviate our content from one to another in order to maintain the rhyme.
So we must divide the lines of our poem into Stanzas.
We can apply twists in the story of our poem here. Stanza are the apt place for that.
But we must aware of the rhyming scheme and visual beauty of our poem if it is necessary.
STEP.6: – The End
I have mentioned about the ending trouble in some people to end the poem in the beginning section of this blog post. But it is common only in intermediate poets. Because their mind would force them to be in the fantasy world of Literature. We must be realistic and conscious while writing poems.
People may say that external disturbances will irritate them while writing. That may be true. But in the competitive side, it is essential to be conscious about our surroundings. Because even a safety pin or even a paper piece can give spark to your topic.
The easiest way to make your poem more readable and beautiful lies in the last stanza of your poem.
That is, you must add a twist in the last lines of your poem. This will make a clash in the reader’s mind. All his thoughts about the story may flip here. May be negatively or positively. That is, may be happy or sad. It is up to you.
For that, you must make reader curious about something in the halfway of your poem. Make the reader to feel that you are hiding something from him. And break that suspense at the end of your poem.
You can refer this idea from one of my previous blogs- ‘The Fallen Flower’. Actually this is a poem. You must read this poem from the beginning till the end. And try to understand the message from the poem by considering the last line and the remaining whole poem. This is an example for adding twist in the last stanza of your poem.
And this is how we must design the end of a poem.
Is Tone Essential…?
A specific musical tone is not necessary for a casual poem. The auditory beauty of the poem lies in its word sequence and the clarity of reading. The auditory beauty of the poem depends upon the way you read. We must slow down, stop, speed up, stress over specific words while reading a poem. The will make the poem more enjoyable to your listener.
So the way or style of reading is more important and essential than a tone in a poem.
Final Step: – Practice
This is the most important step in poetry writing. You must polish your skills in writing. Practice is the only way for that. Never mind your haters. Find the best in you. Frequent poetry writing can easily develop your writing skills. Besides that, you must read poems to design a new dimension in your poems. Never copy from other’s writings. Explore the best in you.
More important than anything, never waste your valuable time in practicing. Use only your leisure time for that.
Never think of deep ideas. Begin from simple ideas and make them attractive by your ideas and skills.
Explore your surroundings. There exists the recipe for your poetry. But you have to cook up it correctly.
I’m sorry for adding complex words in this blog post. Use a dictionary if you need to find the meaning of the words used in this blog post.
In competitive side, there exists the element of luck. You know, the mindset varies from individual to one another.
I’m sure these are easiest steps to develop a moderate casual poem.
